Guram Guramishvili at Closing Conference Marking Successful Conclusion of EU Twinning Project on Road Safety in Georgia

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili participated in the summary event of the twinning project supported by the European Union on road safety. The project aimed to support the establishment of a unified database of road safety in Georgia and further improvement of road safety management.

In his welcoming speech, the Deputy Minister said that raising the level of road safety is an important priority of the Georgian Government. According to Guramishvili, as a result of the project, specific recommendations and an action plan were prepared for the agencies involved in this process, which will contribute to the improvement of the unified database and road safety management in the country.

Guram Guramishvili thanked the European Union, whose funding provided the implementation of the twinning project. Guramishvili noted that a special structural unit was created in the Ministry in the form of the Road Safety Department.

Over 80 participants from various organizations and ministries took part in the closing event of the program. The invited guests comprised representatives of the EU Representation in Georgia and the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy of Poland including Konrad Wojnarowski, Deputy Minister of Poland’s Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Teimuraz Janjalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, and others.

Officials from the Ministries of Economy and Sustainable Development, Interior and Foreign Affairs, and the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health reviewed the results of the project and discussed future steps. It was noted that the project included four main components - namely, the improvement of the electronic road safety database; improvement of management system; facilitating the creation of a trauma registry and improving the data management system and promoting evidence-based decisions.

The participants of the closing event had the opportunity to get acquainted with the achievements in all four components of the project in terms of the road safety management system. The mentioned achievements are the result of the joint efforts of the EU experts responsible for the development and implementation of the road safety policy and the Georgian partners.
