Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Deputy UK Ambassador to Georgia, Clare Allbless, spoke about the prospects of appointment of direct flights between Georgia and Great Britain at a meeting held at the Ministry. The meeting was also attended by the Director of the United Airports of Georgia, Irakli Karkashadze and the Head of Trade Relations of the UK Embassy, Nino Gamkharashvili.

Mariam Kvrivishvili highlighted that both parties will actively work in a coordinated manner to start direct air traffic between Georgia and the UK.

"At the meeting, we noted that both the UK Embassy and our Ministry will use every opportunity to be actively involved in this negotiation process, and accordingly, we have planned joint activities. We have active, ongoing negotiations with the partner airlines to start London-Tbilisi direct flights. At the meeting with the representatives of the UK Embassy, a joint communication with a potential partner airline was also planned in the coming days" –the Deputy Minister noted.

As it was mentioned at the meeting, tourist flows from the UK are growing quite significantly – the awareness of Georgia is increasing year by year, which is reflected in the increase of the number visitors. The representatives of the Embassy of the United Kingdom stated that there is an increased interest from the UK airlines to operate in Georgia, which creates important preconditions for launching of direct air traffic between the two countries.
