Mariam Kvrivishvili: In the first three months of 2024, Georgia has already hosted a million tourists, the number of visitors from the European Union is a record-braking

“This year has started particularly successfully for the tourism industry - it is good that over 1,3 million international travellers has visited our country during the first three months. It should be noted that one million of them were direct tourists, which is an important result for our country, as it is 11% higher figure than the one of the same period of the previous year. It is also worth noting that the number of international visitors from the EU countries is a record-braking,” – Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, commented.

According to Kvrivishvili, the pre-pandemic situation has been completely restored, moreover, compared to the same period of 2019, the increase is almost 7%.

"The tourism industry still maintains a very important dynamic, which implies diversification - we are happy that tourist flows from European countries are increasing, especially from Germany, Poland and other countries, as well as tourist flows from the Gulf countries. We are continuing the policy of diversification, promoting our country on the international scene in order to see even more international travellers in our country this year, to get even more income from the tourism industry, and entrepreneurs involved in this sector to create more new jobs," – Mariam Kvrivishvili said.

According to statistical data, in 3 months of 2024, up to 1 million tourist visits were recorded in Georgia, which exceeds the data of 2019 by +6,4%, compared to 2023, the increase is +11%.

Visits by international travellers reached 1,3 million, which is a +80,4% recovery from the pre-pandemic period, and a +7,6% increase over 2023.

It is worth noting the record growth of visitors from the European Union - in the period of January-March, the number of visits to Georgia from the European Union countries and Great Britain is 44,4% higher than in 2019.

In the first quarter of 2024, the largest number of visits to Georgia was recorded from Poland, which exceeds the data of 2019 by +67,1%, followed by Germany (46,1% increase compared to 2019); United Kingdom (27% growth compared to 2019), etc. The number of visits from high-spending tourist markets has also increased: 27,9% more visits were made to Georgia from the Gulf countries compared to the same period of 2019, and compared to the data of 2023, the increase is 21,.6%. Compared to the data of 2019, the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia is increased by 33,5%, and visits from Kuwait - by 66,3%.
