Dimitry Kumsishvili: Check In Georgia will facilitate the growth of the internal and foreign trade

“Check In Georgia is the project of outmost importance, which, compared to the previous years, is much more refined and diverse,” – the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili stated at the Check In Georgia 2018 project presentation. 

As the First Vice Prime Minister noted, Check in Georgia 2018 will actually cover all Georgia, including the large towns and almost every region.

“Every region will host different type of events, which is very important in terms of regaining regions. There will be a series of concerts and events, which are targeted at increasing Georgia’s recognition, establishing the country as a center of cultural life of the region and facilitating the economic growth,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili noted.

According to the First Vice Prime Minister, this project is intended to attract more tourists from around the world and to promote domestic tourism, since domestic tourism brings into our economy impressive income and creates remarkable number of job.

“Tourism has become one of the most important driving forces in the Georgian economy. These achievements would never be possible without the measures taken by the Georgian Government and our tourism promotion programs. In this regard, the importance of the Check in Georgia project is undoubtable,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili commented.

It should be noted that in 2017, the input in the Georgia’s economy from tourism amounted to over 2.75 billion USD, which is by 27% higher figure compared to 2016.

At the same time, 885,047 international travelers visited Georgia only January-February this year, which is by 17.2% higher figure compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, the tourist flow from 130 countries was increased totaling to increase by 134,870 people. In February, 440,806 international travelers visited Georgia which is by 19.8% higher indicator compared to the same period of the previous year.

The events within the framework of the Check In Georgia 2018 will be launched in April, while the project will last until the end of the year.

Almost all major festivals, including Batumi International Film Festival, Tbilisi International Theater and Photo Festivals, Regional Theaters Festival, International Advertising Festival Ad Black Sea, etc. were combined under this year’s Check-in Georgia umbrella. Music Festival Tbilisi Outer Era, 4 GB and other festivals also joint the Check In Georgia project.

Check In Georgia 2018 budget equals to 20 million.
