Dimitry Kumsishvili: Check in Georgia 2018 will be launched with the concert by Ennio Morricone

“On May 19, Check in Georgia will open the 2018 season with the concert by Ennio Morricone. Along with the Maestro, the 121-member orchestra will arrive in Georgia and perform the favorite for everyone music. We are also happy that our 70-member opera chorus will take part in the concert as well. It really is a great pleasure since Georgian artists will have the opportunity to work with the world-famous Maestro and share the greatest experience and at the same time, it will allow our musicians to receive additional income,” – the First Vice Prime Minister or Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili stated at the press conference, which was held at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre and was dedicated to the upcoming concert by the legendary composer, Ennio Morricone. The Head of the National Tourism Administration, Giorgi Chogovadze and the Director of the Black Sea Arena, Ani Kavlelishvili also participated in the press conference.

“I hope it will be a celebration day for everyone. As you know, we have 100 years anniversary of the restoration of independence and this concert is dedicated to this anniversary. I think we have made proper and decent choices to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restoration of our independence with such a remarkable concert,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili added.

Italian composer arrives in Georgia for the first time. His concert will be held within the framework of the Check in Georgia, on May 19, at the Black Sea Arena and it will be the most remarkable opening of the season of 2018. Ennio Morricone will perform together with the Rome Symphony Orchestra.

The concert scheduled for May 19 is a part of the world tour 60 YEARS OF MUSIC TOUR of the Maestro. All the concerts within the world tour were accompanied with a full house and great ovations from the audience while the media provided the highest reviews. It is noteworthy that Maestro Morricone personally conducts the orchestra. The Tbilisi Opera choir will be participating in the event with its 70 members.

During his long carrier, Ennio Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television, as well as over 100 classical works. Highlights include his scores for Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, A Fistful of Dollars, The Untouchables and The Mission. Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly holds the number two position in Top 200 ranking of best film soundtracks ever composed.
In 2016, Morricone composed and recorded the score for Quentin Tarantino’s movie The Hateful Eight, which won him the Academy Award, the third Golden Globe, and the eighth BAFTA Award for Best Original Score. In total, Maestro has been nominated for the Oscar for six times. In 2007, he received the Academy Honorary Award “for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music”. He has also received three Grammy Awards.

In 2016, he also wrote the score for the most recent movie by Tornatore: The Correspondence, featuring Jeremy Irons. It is noteworthy that in this film, as well as in Mission (1986), whose soundtrack is also by the Maestro, took part the famous actor Jeremy Ayrons. Morricone and Tornatore have rather impressive experience of cooperation including the work on such legendary films as the Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, Malèna, La leggenda del pianista sull'oceano, The Best Offer.

In 2016, Ennio Morricone received an award from his concert producer GEA Live to celebrate the fact that he has sold more than 500.000 tickets.

Within the 60 YEARS OF MUSIC TOUR, concerts are held on the world’s most important stages and over 40 concerts have already been conducted in 30 European cities.

Ennio Morricone commented on his tour: “Performing my music in front of the audience of different ages and cultures is a tremendously exciting experience. This year I will celebrate 60 years of my creative life, during which I have created over 600 pieces of music.

In the course of the tour, I have performed legendary compositions from Sergio Leone’s movies and the Mission, but the general concept of the tour is different, because I’m planning to perform music that has been created in collaboration with Quentin Tarantino and also the compositions from Sergio Leone’s films that have never been performed before.”

Ennio Morricone and his team will arrive via charter flight on May 18 – a day before the concert. In total, 121 people will arrive in Georgia. They will stay in a five-star deluxe hotel.
