Maritime Transport Agency and Global Maritime Consultants Group Signed the Agreement

Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani signed an agreement on general agents with the Global Maritime Consultants Group, which will facilitate to attract more ships to operate under the national flag of Georgia. The Global Maritime Consultants Group operates in 17 countries with 70 representative offices around the world. 

Signing ceremony was held within the frames of the International Maritime Exhibition POSIDONIA 2018 in Athens, where on 4-8 June 2018, Georgia was largely represented following the initiative and arrangement of the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The largest and the most famous exhibition in the world’s maritime industry, the POSIDONIA 2018 hosted Georgia over the 75m2 exhibition space. 

Director of the Maritime Transport Agency met with the president of one of the largest association of the shipowners – the Union of Greek Shipowners, Veniamis E. Theodore. Tamar Ioseliani handed to Veniamis E. Theodore, the invitation by the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Dimitry Kumsishvili to the International Maritime Forum of Georgia. Veniamis E. Theodore confirmed that traditional Greek shipowners are interested in the maritime flag of Georgia and generally, in the maritime capabilities of the country.

Within the framework of the event, important bilateral meetings were also held with the foreign press, as well as with the large ship owners and other representatives of the maritime affairs. The topics of the conversations were Georgia’s maritime capabilities, employment of the Georgian seafarers, registration of the foreign ships under the Georgian flag and the Georgian International Marine Forum GIMF2018, which is scheduled on 12-14 September in Batumi and is held following the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

POSIDONIA 2018 is the most recognizable and important event in the marine industry. The exhibition takes place once in 2 years where the participants are marine authorities, representatives of  harbors, terminals, naval companies and other marine industry sectors from various countries. Since 1969, every two years the POSIDONIA brings together 19000 participants from 92 countries and is the subject of great interest of the international media.
