Negotiations on International Passenger and Freight Transportation between Georgia and China Successfully Completed

First round of negotiations on the Draft Agreement on International Passenger and Freight Transportation between the People’s Republic of China and Georgia have been successfully completed in the capital of China, Beijing. As a result of the negotiations, the Georgian side managed to successfully reach an agreement with the Chinese side. Accordingly, the parties underlined the text of the agreement and signed the relevant protocol.

In accordance with the protocol, the parties will make sure to proceed the internal procedures in order to sign the agreement within a possible short period of time. In addition, prior to the entry into force of the Agreement between the People's Republic of China and Georgia the parties will perform the test transport shipments.

The agreement will create a legal basis for the purpose of commencement of motor transport-transfer between the two countries.

The agreement will facilitate attracting additional cargo routes to Georgia as well as encourage the introduction of Georgian production products to the Chinese market through reduction of transportation costs and shipping time. This will have a positive impact on the development of trade-economic ties between Georgia and the People's Republic of China. It will also result in strengthening cooperation within the framework of One Road – One Belt Initiative.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and International Road Transport Association also participated in the process of negotiations together with the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
