The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will jointly implement initiatives in Georgia and other countries where these organizations are present, to achieve the IMO standards. Giorgi Kobulia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, stated that the relevant decision was made at the panels of the GIMF 2018 dedicated to the issues of cooperation between the EBRD and the IMO.

“I think that the GIMF in Batumi brought some very important outcomes. We had interesting discussions and planned specific steps. Following the discussion with participation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Maritime Organization, initiatives such as supporting investments in port development and so on were elaborated. We agreed that such initiatives should come from the commercial sector and cover issues related to green economy. The EBRD will consider financing of such projects” – Giorgi Kobulia stated.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated that funding of several projects is almost agreed. According to him, these projects are related to upgrading the staff skills in ports, and it is already decided that the trainings related to the emissions control will be funded for the staff of the Georgian ports.
