Marika Gabunia: Export facilitation via diversification of the export markets and flows is our priority

“Export facilitation via diversification of the export markets and flows is one of the priorities of the Government of Georgia. We are actively working in this direction,” – Maka Gabunia, the Head of the Foreign Trade Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development stated. According to Gabunia, Georgian products are reaching more and more new international markets, which is reflected in the data of 9 months of 2018, which indicates the export growth of 25.7%.

Marika Gabunia highlighted a significant increase in exports of agricultural products and namely, according to her, the export of canned fruit and vegetable ins increased by about 80%, non-alcoholic beverages – by 63%; export of lamb meat (which is a new product for our market) – by  about 35%. In addition, the export of wine and alcohol beverages is increased by 19%.

“It is noteworthy that the export of industrial products is being increased together with the agro-products. I would like to highlight that we have a 30% increase in the export of the nitrogenous fertilizers. Exports of medical devices have also been doubled, which has been recorded as export products and we have significant growth in this direction annually” – Marika Gabunia noted.

According to the GeoStat, in January-September of 2018, the largest export groups where the increase is significant are as follows: export of motor vehicles (by 87.1%), cigars and cigarettes (5 times), copper ores and concentrates (by 20.3%), ferroalloys (by 14.9%), natural grape wines (by 19.3%) and nitrogenous fertilizers (by 30.4%).

It should be noted that the exports to the EU countries is increased by 13.2% and equals to 533.0 million USD. Besides the EU countries, significant export growth was observed to Azerbaijan (104.4%), Armenia (34.5%) and Ukraine (60.4%).
