Akaki Saghirashvili Examined Kutaisi Airport New Terminal Construction Works

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Akaki Saghirashvili got acquainted with the Kutaisi Airport new terminal construction works. He examined the ongoing works together with the Kutaisi Airport management and the Acting Director of the Georgian Airports Association, Ivane Lekishvili.

Construction works of the new passenger terminal of David the Builder Kutaisi International Airport is in its active stage. The total area of the new terminal is 24 176m2, which means that the renewed terminal will be about three times larger than the existing one. According to Akaki Saghirashvili, the number of passengers at the airport is growing daily. “We have already served 512 thousand passengers in 10 months. It is noteworthy that 52% of them are foreign citizens, they are traveling to our country for tourism reasons and the economic effect for the country, which is calculated according in accordance with the special standards, has already exceeded 110 million. Therefore, we have planned to expand this airport that will allow for launching new flights,” – the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.

Akaki Saghirashvili highlighted that the relevant infrastructure is developed in line with the growing tourism sector. As the Deputy Minister noted, the all the construction works are due to be accomplished by the end of 2019.

Today, Kutaisi International Airport serves 300 passengers an hour. After completion of the new terminal construction, the airport will have 7 gates, which means that it will be possible to serve 1000 - 1100 passengers an hour since the airport capacity will be significantly increased and, at the same time, costumers will be able to enjoy the services of the modern, comfortable airport.
