George Kobulia: New startups are preconditions for the development of our country

George Kobulia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, participated in the business award ceremony organized by the TBC Bank and handed over the award to the company Gepherrini that won in nomination “Best product of the year”. Other nominees were the Herbia and the pharmaceutical company Neopharm.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, in his welcoming speech, expressed gratefulness to the organizers of business award for encouraging business sector in Georgia and evaluating their activities. According to Kobulia, it is important that have even more similar events. “We welcome such events since they motivate small and medium businesses to do more,” – George Kobulia said.

“We, as the Government, are watching at your activities very carefully and we are looking forward your success because your success is the success of our country,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development addressed the business sector representatives.

George Kobulia also focused on the importance of the development of the small and medium size businesses as well as the startups and new companies. “We find small and medium businesses of greatest importance in the private sector. The new startups, the new developments are the precondition of the development of our country,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted. He also paid attention to the three sectors of the economy - agriculture, pharmaceuticals and tobacco products, the development of which are the priority directions of the country’s economic policy.

The jury awarded 6 winner companies from the 18 finalists to the TBC Bank Business Award: Business of the Year, Georgian Products of the Year, Startup of the Year, Travel Business of the Year, Female Entrepreneur and the Business for a Positive Influence.

The European Fund for South Eastern Europe (EFSE), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Impact Hub Tbilisi and the Enterprise Georgia Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development were the partners of the event.
