Winter Season Officially Opened in Gudauri

Gudauri is 30!  The winter season was officially opened at the winter ski resort with the events celebrating the 30th year of its establishment. Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development George Kobulia and other officials attended the meeting.

The event in New Gudauri was organized by the National Tourism Administration and the Mountain Resort Company of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

George Kobulia congratulated everyone on the 30th anniversary of Gudauri as well as on opening of the new season. “I congratulate everyone on the 30th anniversary of Gudauri. Today we have opened a new season. Gudauri is absolutely renewed, we have increased the capacity of our ropes, developed the infrastructure and I hope that our citizens as well as foreign guest will enjoy the  resort even more this year,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.

Gudauri meets this season with renewed infrastructure - 6 new ropes were built on the resort while the old ropes have been reconstructed. Construction of new ropes will 3.5 times increase the capacity of the resort. After the construction of additional ropes and the reconstruction of the existing ones, the skiing slope has been increased by 20%. Installation of the artificial snow equipment is on its second stage.

Gudauri has hosted millions of tourists since its foundation and at this point, it holds a leading place among the eastern European winter resorts.

At the same time, under the leadership of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, several large projects are underway. Construction of Kobi-Gudauri ropeway, which is 7.5 m. is being implemented and it is a single cluster with the construction of the Kobi-Gudauri ropeway. New ropes "Soliko" and "Tails" will be a 6-seat ‘open’ barrel type cableways that provide protection against passenger cooling, and a rope "first" open and also 6 seater. The cableway "Pirveli" and "Soliko" will be 2800 passengers an hour and the new "tails" will be to transport 2200 passengers.

In recent years, the number of local and international tourists has been increased significantly in Georgia. In 2011/2012 - 2017/2018 the number of tourists in the ski-mountain resorts (Gudauri, Bakuriani, Goderdzi, Svaneti) has been increased by 491%.
